Podiana, episode three. Today it's about reviews. Everyone wants them, hardly anyone gets them, and the way most businesses ask is the reason why.

Rule one: ask at the moment of joy. Not three days later by e-mail, but right when the customer says: that was great. A card at the counter with a short link, a sentence from you, done. The best moment is the only moment.

Rule two: never buy, never fake, never trade. Search engines and customers notice patterns. Twenty five-star reviews in one week from accounts without a history hurt more than one honest three-star review.

Rule three: answer every review. Especially the critical ones, within two days, calmly, with a name. Thank them, name what went wrong, say what you changed. Future customers read your reply to see how you treat people when things go wrong. That's worth more than the star.

Rule four: use what you get. A good review belongs on your website, in your window, in your next episode. People said it, so let it be heard.

That was Podiana. Next week: how to tell your own story in sixty seconds, without sounding like an ad.
